Following the course on Project Based Learning or Personal Learning Environment

I started a course on Project based learning in order to change the way that students learn. They should be able to take their own time in learning things and also decide on themselves the way that they are going to present the learnt material.

In the PBL the teacher is only facilitator and the students are the main force that push learning further.
This develops the skills that the student need for the 21st century, and they are:

  1. Critical thinking
  2. Collaboration
  3. Problem solving and
  4. Communication
So, my challenge is to review my teaching and decide:
- what do I want to change,
- what is not working in the classroom,
- what do I need to improve and
- which activities will I take in order to achieve these goals and make a change in the outcome of my teaching.

I am thinking on a lot of things to improve in the classroom, since a lesson is never completely finished. Every year the same curriculum is differently presented depending on the students that you have.

These are few points that I am going to focus during this school year:
  • I can improve the student led learning. Speaking (involvement in class) and use of ICT.
  • I can try connecting the students to peers and giving them the opportunity to learn, ask and speak about things that they are interested in outside the classroom.
  • I'm not happy with the percentage of students who feel insecure to speak because they don't know enough grammar. So I need to find a way to incourage them to express their thoughts. (I'm thinking on including Flipgrid app for that purpose. If you have some other idea you can put it in the comments)
  • The "closed classroom" learning isn't working for students in situations from real life, so we need to have topics that the students are feeling close to their daily activities and keep them ingaged.
Since August is the time when we plan for the new school year, this is exactly the time to change the yearly, monthly and daily plans.

I will write a post in future for the way I plan and the activities for my lesson plans. Also the techniques and methods I have decided to use.

I can't wait to see my review at the end of school year and compare the results.

See you in my next post! ❤️
